The process of receiving a provisional patent with the United States Patent Office has been an eye-opening experience. The creation of a patent specification with prior art research and cad drawings was aided by John’s skills in prototyping and machining exposure that started at age nineteen working with Chatham Steel. There he learned to operate C.N.C. lathes and vertical mills such as the Haas VF1 and Laser cutting machines including the Trumpf Trumatic L3050 Laser Cutter.
John is currently completing a bachelor‘s degree in Computer Science so it was a natural extension of his machining experience to learn cad and to prototype with additive manufacturing. Achieving a Provisional Patent Status allowed us to move from scaled models to early full-size prototypes.
